Northampton Community Resilience Hub
The Northampton Community Resilience Hub (HUB) is envisioned as a multi-functional facility supporting residents before, during, and after emergencies. It integrates climate resilience, social equity, and public health goals. The Owner's Project Manager (OPM) serves as the client’s representative, ensuring delivery on time, assists in developing budget, and stakeholder involvement.
The goal of the Northampton Community and Resilience Hub (HUB) project is multifaceted, fundamentally aiming to support Northampton residents who face chronic and acute stress resulting from climate change, and social and economic hardship
The project seeks to address two primary pressing needs in Northampton:
-
Establishing a day center to support individuals who are homeless and within or eligible for the shelter system.
-
This day center is intended to complement existing shelter services by providing a warm, safe, and respectful space for basic needs like showers, personal storage, and a mailing address. The goal, in part, is to offer a point of contact and basic subsistence space to support the critical work of seasonal shelters and outreach workers, helping individuals maintain contact with support systems and facilitating the process of exiting homelessness, rather than just making homelessness easier
-
Addressing the anticipation of a growing number of climate-related events (such as flooding, temperature extremes, and economic crisis) that could endanger the stability of vulnerable households
The project acknowledges that environmental events disproportionately impact low-income, transient, elderly, non-English speaking, unsheltered residents, and those struggling with mental health issues and addiction
